20050712CHINA - Jiu Zhai Gou Natural Reserve
A gorgeous alpine valley studded with dazzling turquoise lakes as clear and as bright as gemstones. It presents different charm in 4 seasons. According to the locals, the immaculate original view has deteriorated since this reserve was developed with the influx of tourists. The RMB 300 admission fees is a drawback! No tourist is allowed to stay overnight in the reserve, but some local residents would risk and offer accommodation. All residents around are not allowed to farm since declaration as UNESCO heritage, now mostly work with tourism related activities. The convenient shuttle bus service does save time and energy to hop from place to place, but not free of charge of course. Tibetan culture shows was entertaining. Paid RMB 160, but later found “last minute” offer for half price. The guide already collected his hefty commission.
