20050919 CHINA - Wu Zhen
This small water town is bisected by canals. The well preserved ancient architecture is the key factor attracting tourists, threatened hard by modernization. The entrance ticket (I paid) includes the visit to about 10 museums inside the compound. In fact, there are many other ways to bypass the ticketing counter, be cautious of the guards checking your ticket (mostly in the early morning and late evening). Tourists are not allowed to stay overnight inside the compound, but some residents risk themselves to rent out a room for additional minimal income.
