The name of “Land of Thousand Hills” aptly illustrates the general terrain of this landlocked country. Plain agricultural land is scarce, massive production is not possible. Lacking of natural resources, missing of seaport, low industrial product etc have forced the country highly dependent on imports. The living costs are at par with Europelevel, burdening the locals who may earn less than EUR2 per day. Unemployment rate is high in this 10-million population nation!
Rwanda shocked the world in the notorious 1994 genocide incident. Under the present government, the social and politics are well controlled. Less than 2 decades, the country has emerged to be among the most friendly and safest in African continent.
The tourism industry is not prosperous, however its ace – the mountain gorilla attracts lots of visitors every year. The safari is not competitive to the neighbouring Kenya, Tanzaniaand Uganda.
